"notes": "A Metropolitan Police news release of June 2026, issued ahead of a speech setting out plans to scale drones, live facial recognition and AI, says \"The Met is now using AI to significantly accelerate\" the review of video evidence, using technology that \"can scan and interpret footage to identify people, vehicles and key events\". It says early use in serious crime investigations, across 23 major cases including homicide investigations and more than 16,000 hours of CCTV, \"has reduced review time by the equivalent of 454 officer days\"; these are the force's figures. ITV News (24 June 2026) reported the Met's claim that AI used to trawl CCTV footage had saved hundreds of hours of investigators' time. Neither source names a product or supplier or gives a start date, and no independent evaluation was found.",
