"notes": "Surrey Police and Sussex Police run live facial recognition as a joint programme: the forces describe \"a joint bid to obtain two live facial recognition (LFR) vans\", funded by the Home Office. Each force has its own record, linked by the programme name.\n\nThe forces publish a running deployment register covering Redhill, Staines, Camberley, Ashford, Epsom, Woking and Guildford.\n\nThe register resolves the earlier discrepancy over the start date: its earliest entry is Redhill town centre on 13 November 2025, and the date of 23 January 2026 is the first row of a later table on the same page, not the first deployment.\n\nNEC Software is named by the forces in describing the Home Office-commissioned testing of the technology, which identifies the supplier but is not a separate procurement record.\n\nUpdate, November 2026. Surrey Police's page, read directly, lists the earliest deployment as Redhill town centre on 13 November 2025 (watchlist 8,124, five alerts), followed by Woking on 26 November, Epsom on 2 December, Guildford on 13 December and Walton on 16 December 2025. The latest entries are Staines railway station on 17, 24 and 25 October 2026, so use continues. The page names NEC Software, cites common law, the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, the Human Rights Act 1998, the Equality Act 2010, UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and says superintendents or above authorise each deployment, an equality impact assessment is required and every match must be corroborated by an officer. The Surrey page was read; Sussex's own page was not.",
