"notes": "SITIA — Sistema Integrado de Teleprotección con Inteligencia Artificial — is a programme of the Unidad de Inteligencia Artificial e Interoperabilidad de Datos in the División de Estudios y Tecnología of the Subsecretaría de Prevención del Delito, under Chile's Ministerio de Seguridad Pública. Its own site states 'Presencia en 36 comunas de la Región Metropolitana', '+ 2.000 Cámaras unificadas' and '+ 550 Lectores de patente integrados'. The plate component performs automatic detection and recognition of number plates and is integrated with Carabineros' unified vehicle warrant database, so that a vehicle with an outstanding theft report is detected automatically. President Gabriel Boric presented the system's progress on 8 July 2024 alongside the Interior Minister and both subsecretaries, saying the aim was to bring public and private camera feeds into a single platform. On 22 December 2025 the Subsecretaría launched the first municipal deployment of SITIA Patentes in Lo Barnechea, with 115 integrated cameras, and reported four vehicles with active theft warrants seized in four checkpoints during the first week; Carabineros General Jaime Velasco described the interconnection of municipalities, private entities and Carabineros as strategically important. Earlier official reporting states SITIA Patentes had already enabled Carabineros to break up ten gangs involved in violent vehicle theft in the Metropolitan Region. legalBasis and oversight are empty: no source establishes a statute or regulation authorising the system, and the only governance body found is an advisory council of universities and experts mentioned in the July 2024 presentation, which is not oversight in the sense this field is used. Sources are in Spanish. Note that no source states or denies that SITIA includes facial recognition; the site describes plate recognition, camera unification and evidence management only.\n\nUpdate, November 2026. G5 Noticias (13 July 2026) reports that the Valparaíso regional governor, Rodrigo Mundaca, signed an agreement with the Subsecretaría, at a meeting with seven mayors, to bring SITIA to the Valparaíso Region, starting with La Calera, La Cruz, Hijuelas, Algarrobo, Valparaíso, Limache and Putaendo, communes that already have camera surveillance and plate readers. It gives SITIA's figures of more than 2,000 integrated cameras and more than 550 integrated plate readers, and says the network supports the detection of vehicles wanted in connection with robbery. It does not mention facial recognition or state a legal basis.",
