"notes": "The Ministry of Justice and HM Courts and Tribunals Service announced on 14 April 2026 a study, led by HMCTS, to explore \"how the Ministry of Justice's in-house AI, Justice Transcribe, could meet required accuracy standards while reducing transcription time and costs\", with the aim of cutting the cost of court transcripts; transcripts of Crown Court proceedings are currently produced by contracted providers. The Courts Minister, Sarah Sackman, said: \"By deploying AI in the courtroom, we can boost transparency and access to justice\". The release gives no start date, duration, list of courts or supplier. Local Government Lawyer (15 April 2026) described HMCTS as piloting the service, but neither source shows the study under way, so it is recorded as proposed. The Ministry's Justice AI Unit page separately describes a \"Judicial Transcribe\" tool for real-time capture of hearings and decisions in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber, which is not covered by this record.",
