"notes": "eu-LISA said on 21 May 2025 that it had launched the shared Biometric Matching Service on 20 May 2025, describing it as \"a centralised system that stores and compares biometric data\", such as fingerprints and facial images, across multiple EU information systems, and as the \"first operational component of the interoperability architecture\". It went live alongside the upgraded Visa Information System (VIS4EES), and the Entry/Exit System was described as an upcoming integration. eu-LISA's page does not name contractors. IDEMIA Public Security and Sopra Steria said in a release of 25 August 2025 that they led the design and implementation of the system after being selected by eu-LISA in 2020, and called it the EU's central system for storing and comparing fingerprints and facial images; that is a company claim.",
