"notes": "The second component of SITIA brings security cameras into one platform for real-time monitoring 'regardless of their origin or manufacturer', including feeds owned by municipalities and by private operators, and is paired with a digital, encrypted evidence platform through which prosecutors request audiovisual material. The Ministerio del Interior y Seguridad Pública announced on 7 May 2024 that 70 cameras were connected at that point with capacity in that phase for more than 1,541, drawing on the communes of Renca, Lo Prado, Santiago, Independencia, Quinta Normal, Vitacura, Estación Central and Providencia, together with the traffic control unit UOCT and private participants Autopista Vespucio Norte, Mall Plaza Norte and Arauco Estación Central. Carabineros concentrates the project, its Metropolitan zone chief saying it would maximise prevention and institutional reaction. The SITIA site now states more than 2,000 unified cameras across 36 communes of the Metropolitan Region. This record is kept separate from the SITIA Patentes plate-reading record because they are different technologies within one programme. legalBasis and oversight are empty: no source establishes a statutory basis or a named oversight body, and the advisory council of universities and experts mentioned in July 2024 is advisory rather than supervisory. Sources are in Spanish. Camera counts here are the government's own published figures and were not independently verified.\n\nUpdate, November 2026. G5 Noticias (13 July 2026) reports an agreement signed by the Valparaíso regional governor, Rodrigo Mundaca, with the Subsecretaría to extend SITIA to seven communes of the Valparaíso Region (La Calera, La Cruz, Hijuelas, Algarrobo, Valparaíso, Limache and Putaendo) that already have camera surveillance and plate readers, and gives SITIA's figure of more than 2,000 integrated cameras. The article does not mention facial recognition or give a legal basis.",
