"notes": "West Yorkshire Police developed a Domestic Abuse Assessment Tool (DAAT) in the Information Commissioner's Office Regulatory Sandbox. The ICO's final report (October 2025) says the tool uses supervised machine learning to predict whether a domestic abuse incident will be followed within 12 months by no further abuse, a \"less serious\" occurrence or a \"more serious\" one, and produces a prediction score that officers consider alongside the existing DASH checklist and their own judgement. The ICO says the algorithm \"will not be used for decision making and is only intended to support decision making\", and the report stresses meaningful human involvement, the force's removal of proxy variables such as postcodes, and testing whether the tool's error rates are higher than under the DASH approach. The report says the project had moved from a shadow pilot to a planned six-month trial deployment in Leeds, due to start in 2025, with accuracy measured after 12 months. No source read confirms that the trial has started. A separate force response of August 2026 (FOI 3133147/26) says the force adopted the Domestic Abuse Risk Assessment (DARA) as its frontline risk assessment tool in March 2026; it does not mention the machine learning tool. An earlier decision of the West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner (DP0130, 6 March 2020) funded £20,000 of pre-phase consultancy on a Domestic Abuse Assessment Tool; it does not mention machine learning.",
