"notes": "A City of Pittsburgh public safety blotter item dated 18 June 2026 says Zone 6 officers were dispatched to Steuben Street at about 3 a.m. after a 'one-round ShotSpotter notification', where a woman was found with a gunshot wound. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, republished by GovTech on 13 August 2025, reported on a review by the City Controller's office: ShotSpotter was first deployed in 2014 in parts of police Zone 5 and has since expanded to all police zones without covering the whole city; the city had spent about $8.1 million since 2014; from 2018 to 2023 police response times to 911 calls were in most cases more than double those to ShotSpotter alerts; and the data did not show a 'significant reduction in overall crime levels'. Police leadership said sensors were 'dispersed based on crime data'. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, in an undated article that refers to Chicago's 2024 decision to drop the system, reported a four-year, $8.3 million contract with SoundThinking signed in 2021 and running to 31 December 2025, and quoted Police Chief Larry Scirotto: 'The bureau does not have any intention to follow Chicago's lead'. A later, undated report by The Center Square, republished on AOL, says City Council renewed a three-year, $8.5 million contract in December, quotes the vendor as saying 2,394 alerts in the previous year captured 8,554 rounds, and reports Councillor Barbara Warwick questioning the results at a meeting on 24 February, citing 234 arrests.",
