"notes": "LBC (22 October 2026) reports that Derbyshire Constabulary authorised officers to use Microsoft Copilot in May 2025, with guidance covering productivity uses such as drafting reports and summarising information, and a ban on inputting operational, sensitive or personal data. The report says the force made a voluntary referral of a senior detective to the Independent Office for Police Conduct on 23 June 2026, after an internal review, because it was concerned that the officer's AI use 'may not have been in line with guidance and conditions issued by the force', and that the IOPC, which began its own investigation in August, is examining alleged gross misconduct covering Copilot use from May 2025 to June 2026, including allegedly using it to 'create policy decisions, assess and manage risk, justify decision-making' and input sensitive case data. Emily Barry of the IOPC is quoted calling these 'serious allegations'. No finding has been made. Police Professional (15 June 2026) separately reported that Derbyshire had launched a criminal investigation into an allegation of perverting the course of justice involving an officer's alleged use of AI to create evidential material, without naming the tool; the sources do not say whether the two cases concern the same officer. The sources do not say how many staff have Copilot or whether the tool remains available.",
