"notes": "In a Freedom of Information response dated 2 May 2025 (reference 423/25), Cumbria Constabulary answers 'Yes – PND' when asked whether it uses retrospective facial recognition, meaning searches of the Police National Database. The same response says the force has not deployed live facial recognition, answers 'No' on operator-initiated facial recognition, and says facial recognition has not been used with body-worn video. It adds that discussion on future use 'remains ongoing but this will be based on national direction and supporting legislation and guidance', and that no governing policy or data protection impact assessment document currently exists. The response gives no search volumes or start date.",
