The Orleans Parish Communications District has used an artificial intelligence system for 911 calls since 2023. The agency also began using a limited version of a 311 AI programme last month. The use of the technology in the emergency call system prompted public alarm over fears that computer programmes could generate false information when deciding emergency responses. Supporters argue AI simplifies work and handles routine tasks, while critics point to wider risks including job losses, faulty legal citations, and chatbots encouraging self-harm.
