Remote check-in systems ask a person under probation supervision to record a short video on their own phone and answer questions about their behaviour and recent activities. AI is used to confirm that the person in the video is the person being supervised, and attempts to defeat the matching, or concerning answers, raise an alert for probation staff.

The Ministry of Justice announced a pilot of this kind in September 2025, to run in four probation regions in England and then be considered for wider rollout with further features such as GPS location checks. The announcement gave no start date or supplier, and no source found shows that the pilot has begun.

The tracker records the technology where a probation or prison body is shown to plan, pilot or use it.
