AI Investigative Analysis Programme (Poland, proposed)

On 22 April 2026 Poland's Interior Minister announced the creation of a dedicated AI team covering the Police, Border Guard and the 112 emergency notification system.

The ministry's own statement describes intended uses: analysis of evidential material, with AI able to search thousands of hours of recordings or thousands of documents; detection of patterns linking apparently unconnected facts; and automated anomaly detection for cybercrime. The Border Guard is to be supported by automation covering biometrics and image recognition, including automatic detection of border violations. The minister separately stated AI would be used for facial image recognition in border protection.

The ministry gives the team's principal task as developing safe and transparent rules for AI use, consistent with European data protection and civil rights standards — that is, the announced work is governance as much as capability.

The minister's stated starting point was that existing IT tools for data processing were built more than twenty years ago. The team held its first meeting in May 2026.
