Notes

Blick (17 April 2026) reports that cameras at about 170 Swiss border crossings automatically record vehicle plates, with plate, date and time stored, normally for 30 days, and that plates are checked against search databases; the federal office says drivers cannot be identified from the images and declines to say which crossings are equipped. Auto Motor und Sport gives 177 equipped sites out of 692 crossings, names the RIPOL police database as the check and says data may also support heavy-vehicle fee checks and traffic statistics. Parliament has approved a transit fee ('Alpenmaut') that the existing scanners could be used to collect; the Federal Council has yet to draft the bill. No start date or vendor is given in either report.
