Notes

A Department press release of 25 May 2026 announced that it had completed the installation of 25 new and upgraded eGates at Dublin Airport, supplied by Vision Box / Amadeus following a procurement managed through the Office of Government Procurement's eTenders process. The release describes "improved facial comparison technology" and "enhanced impostor detection measures", with a new two-step verification process, and says passengers who need further examination are referred to immigration officers. ID card reader functionality is added for "eligible passengers from participating countries". It states that 6.3 million passengers used the eGates in 2025, so eGates were in use before this upgrade, but it does not say when they were introduced or which unit operates them. The release does not use the word biometric, does not describe the matching as AI, and states no legal basis or oversight body.
