PAI-64CFD14ERefresh Miami, republished by WLRN on 26 January 2026, reported that the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office's PUG ('police unmanned ground') vehicle launched as a pilot in October 2025 but was not yet active in the field, pending deputy training, with the pilot having no end date. The vehicle has thermal imaging, a drone, 360-degree cameras, licence plate recognition and what the article calls AI; a trained deputy must be behind the wheel during the pilot and it cannot pull over vehicles or issue tickets. Perrone Robotics developed the robotic technology and the nonprofit Policing Lab donated the vehicle. A Policing Lab and sheriff's office release on Business Wire, 1 October 2025, described a 12-month pilot with the vehicle assigned to the Community Affairs Bureau and appearing at public events to gather feedback before any broader patrol use, and listed 'AI-driven patrol functions'. Government Fleet reported in January 2026 that the Policing Lab described the technology as 'still in the testing and training phase'. No later report of the vehicle in field use has been found.
