Notes
dpa, published by t3n on 17 May 2022, reports that the Lower Saxony justice ministry confirmed a three-year research project, awarded at the end of March 2022, to test AI that flags unusual activity on prison cameras to staff for suicide and violence prevention, with Justizvollzugsanstalt Oldenburg as the test site. The ministry described it as an extra safeguard, a 'third eye'. The report says the timing of the test is not known, names no provider, and says use in practice depends on the amended prison law. The Landtag had asked the ministry in March 2021 (Drucksache 18/8729, SPD and CDU motion) to prepare a tender for such a research project. No later source on the project's progress or results was found.
