Notes
The South Australian Auditor-General's own report states SAPOL was already using AI-type tools for facial recognition matched against CCTV and custody photographs, mobile phone detection cameras, and social media monitoring, with further plans for AI-assisted interview transcription and machine learning tools for identifying leads and hidden connections between cases. This entry bundles several related capabilities the Auditor-General reported together rather than treating each as a separate deployment, since the source itself does not give each one separately confirmed operational status.
Update, November 2026. The Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice's AI atlas for Australian criminal proceedings (information as at July 2026) names South Australia Police among the agencies operating NEC NeoFace, which it says produces a ranked candidate list for investigator review and is "treated strictly as a discovery tool rather than standalone evidence". It lists South Australia among the states where Acusensus cameras detect illegal mobile phone use and seatbelt non-compliance, with potential offences verified by human reviewers before fines are issued; it does not say which body operates the South Australian cameras. It gives no start dates.
