Notes
The first UK force to test PredPol. The force cancelled the contract after saying it was challenging to demonstrate that the programme reduced crime. This is the same pattern seen in Los Angeles and in the Dutch Crime Anticipation System: the operating agency itself was unable to show the software worked.
Update, November 2026. Liberty Investigates (25 June 2026) says Kent "recently cancelled its contract" with PredPol and that showing the programme reduced crime had been "challenging"; the article gives no dates. Earlier reporting places the end in 2018: Big Brother Watch lists a Telegraph and BBC report of 27 November 2018 that Kent Police had stopped using the software, and the Liberties article of the same date says Kent was the first UK force to introduce it, in 2013, without giving a stop date. That article does not name PredPol. It quotes the Kent Police Federation chair linking the tool's use to officer time and shrinking resources, which differs from the reason given in 2026. The force's own statement of why it stopped was not read.
