Notes

Current Time reported on 14 October 2026 that the "Digital SIZO" at Moscow's Butyrka remand prison is an FSIN experiment, under test since late 2022, in which more than 350 cameras automatically flag six situations: fights, escape attempts, suicide attempts, smoke, poor visibility and a person at a window. An operator checks each alert. Prison head Anatoly Gladkikh described the aim as "remote supervision using artificial intelligence". Two FSIN Academy staff wrote that the incident-management system runs on SecurOS software, made by ISS, and the head of a department at the FSIN University wrote that the identification system is linked to Moscow's "Sfera" facial recognition system; Current Time could not confirm which biometric modules are used. Prison staff told media the system had helped prevent 22 fights, six suicide attempts and three possible fires by 2025, and Anna Karetnikova, a former leading analyst at FSIN's Moscow directorate, called Butyrka technologically one of the most backward Moscow remand prisons and said staff shortages undermine the system. 1.ru reported on 11 January 2026, citing TASS, that the FSIN directorate for Moscow had presented the "pilot project", begun in late December 2022.
