Notes

Monaco Tribune (28 December 2023) reports that government bill no. 1087 on video protection and video surveillance of places open to the public, filed with the Conseil national on 19 December 2023 and referred to its legislation committee, would allow remote biometric identification on video-protection footage to detect, search for and identify wanted persons placed on a dedicated alert list, automating work the Direction de la Sûreté publique now does by eye. It says the Interior Department had told the paper in spring 2023 that the video surveillance system, then 1,057 cameras, could not perform facial recognition. News.mc (4 February 2025) reports that a proposed law on the subject had yet to be examined in detail by the Conseil national, that its president, Thomas Brezzo, said it would not be on the agenda for 2025, and that the head of public security, Éric Arella, supports the technology (from an interview with Monaco Info). Neither source reports adoption, withdrawal or use; the status rests on the government's filing of the bill.
