Two Greer police officers, Corporal Kareem Lynch and Officer Sebastian Echeverry, were fired in June for breaching city policy regarding the use of Automatic Licence Plate Recognition technology. The system, provided by Flock Safety, automatically tracks passing vehicles and is required by departmental policy to be used strictly for public safety-related missions. After receiving allegations that the officers had violated this policy, city officials conducted a review of the platform using an artificial intelligence audit assistance tool. According to City Administrator Andrew Merriman, the AI audit corroborated the allegations against Lynch and Echeverry, leading to their dismissal.
