AI agents carried out every step of this ransomware attack – then left the victim an 80-page security audit

A cyber criminal has used artificial intelligence agents to breach an enterprise network in under 10 hours. According to cybersecurity researchers Unit 42, an operation of this scale would typically take human attackers around two weeks. The intruder deployed autonomous AI tools to carry out every stage of the raid, from initial reconnaissance and stealing administrative passwords to mapping internal systems. The software also took over the victim's own cloud systems to run computing tasks and conceal malicious traffic. After completing the attack, the extortionist provided the targeted company with an 80-page security audit detailing the vulnerabilities.
