Nagpur Rural Police solved the rape and murder of an unidentified elderly woman found in a farm near Patansaongi within ten days by combining physical evidence, CCTV analysis, and artificial intelligence. Investigators initially traced an empty packet of Balaji chips discarded near the victim's body to nearby shops, which allowed officers to review local CCTV footage and identify a suspect moving through the area. The police force also utilised MARVEL (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement), an AI-powered investigative platform, to digitally reconstruct the facial features of both the victim and the suspect to gather additional leads. Following these developments, officers arrested 48-year-old Sudhakar Dadarao Mandpe in Nagpur city on July 6, and he was subsequently remanded to police custody after appearing before a court.
