The high-risk stop was triggered when Flock Safety's automatic licence plate recognition network misidentified a New Jersey manufacturer plate attached to the vehicle due to a single data-entry error. Officers ordered Feder to exit the SUV and asked if he was armed, but confirmed the car was legitimate after checking its vehicle identification number. Feder, director of content and product at automotive publication *The Drive*, said the encounter altered his view on AI-driven licence plate systems and the risks of inaccurate database entries.
