Fla. PD puts up decoy ALPR cameras to catch suspected vandal
Reported by Police1
Police in Florida have arrested a man after setting up 3D-printed decoy cameras to catch someone vandalising automated licence plate readers. The Oviedo Police Department installed the fake devices following a series of attacks on real Flock cameras in the area. Officers caught the suspect after he cut a decoy down with pruning shears and smashed it on the ground. The man told investigators the cameras made him feel under a "constant eye" after he read online criticism of the technology. Police said the bait devices do not collect any licence plate data, and the man faces multiple charges including criminal mischief and grand theft.
