Researchers from the Criminal Investigation Police University of China have used artificial intelligence tools to infiltrate, decode, and monitor Chinese-language dark web platforms. Although previous studies in China and abroad mainly concentrated on analysing English-language material, little published research existed concerning dark web content in Chinese. In a paper published in the Journal of Chinese Computer Systems, the team detailed an AI model specifically trained to translate and assess sensitive and illegal material. To collect data despite Captcha verification and evolving anti-scraping tactics, the researchers designed a system capable of managing site logins, compiling lists, and downloading images.
