Essex Police are deploying Live Facial Recognition vans in Clacton town centre on Saturday, July 4, to help identify individuals suspected of serious offences. The technology will be used to locate people suspected of violence, sexual offences, theft, and drug-related crime. Officers state that the cameras can identify individuals even if their faces are partially covered by masks or other coverings. Images of members of the public who are not on a police watchlist will be discarded in a fraction of a second. The force has made more than 170 arrests using live facial recognition to date, and officers will be in the town to answer questions about how the system works.
