The technology has exacerbated common phone scams targeting elderly individuals, including incidents where fraudsters impersonate distressed grandchildren asking for money to be wired. To prevent financial loss, Lawcewicz advises people to be cautious of rushed calls demanding money and to verify callers by contacting family members directly. She also highlights the importance of protecting personal information, recognising counterfeit bills, shredding documents, and registering for the Do Not Call Registry.
