Thames Valley Police has cancelled a planned deployment of its live facial recognition vans to Market Square in Witney, Oxfordshire, which was scheduled for 10 July. A spokesperson for the force stated that the visit was called off for the time being because the team was committed to other demands on the day. The police had intended to deploy the technology in Witney to combat local crime alongside neighbourhood officers. The specialist team was set to use the system to identify known suspects, deter criminal activity, and improve community safety.
