- Legal basis
- The federal government's answer of 7 July 2026 (Bundestag Drucksache 21/7079) says the Federal Act on the Protection of the Constitution (BVerfSchG) governs data processing in files in a technology-neutral way and that, if sections 10 to 12 are complied with, there is no data protection obstacle to such a system; drweb.de, citing WDR, NDR and Süddeutsche Zeitung, reports that full use of the platform's functions depends on a reform of intelligence-service law.

Notes
ORF (13 May 2026), citing reports by Süddeutsche Zeitung, NDR and WDR, says the BfV will use data analysis software from the French company ChapsVision, a competitor of Palantir, and that according to the BfV a test was completed successfully and the software is ready for use, for example in counter-terrorism and counter-intelligence. drweb.de names the product as the ArgonOS analysis platform and says the decision followed a proof-of-concept phase. No contract value or purchase date is given. In its answer of 7 July 2026 to a Die Linke minor interpellation (Bundestag Drucksache 21/7079, answering 21/6752), the federal government declined to answer, even in classified form, any question on the software, its use or its cost, saying that naming firms and products would reveal how the BfV works; it neither confirms nor denies the reports. netzpolitik.org (15 October 2026) reports that the BfV, the BND and the MAD declined to confirm or deny current or future use of Palantir. Recorded as proposed because the sources describe a procurement decision and a completed test, and no source shows routine use.
