Notes

In its answer to Kleine Anfrage 7/3805 (Drucksache 7/6655, answer dated 3 November 2022), the Thuringian government stated that the Landeskriminalamt uses Griffeye Analyze DI Pro with the embedded AI component 'Griffeye Brain' to flag potentially incriminating image and video material in child and youth sexual abuse cases. The software computes a probability that serves as an indicator; an examiner then reviews and classifies the material. It also detects faces and objects. The answer says the model uses machine learning with multi-object recognition, was trained by the manufacturer on case data from Australian, US and European police authorities, and cannot be modified by users. The answer says the AI function was added to the software about three years earlier, after the licences had been procured by tender, and that it is included in the annual fee of about 1,500 euros per licence. The answer states that no further AI use was planned at that time and that Thuringia uses no Palantir or NSO Group software. The answer is dated November 2022 and no later source on the tool's use was found.
