Notes
Dagens PS reported on 30 April 2024 that the Swedish Police were starting to use automatic reading of vehicle registration numbers in areas near the borders, under legislation in force since 1 August 2023. It said a first version of the system would be put into use on the Öresund Bridge, that the number of cameras in different places would be increased gradually, and that the data may be processed for six months and then deleted. It quotes Håkan Jarborg Eriksson, national coordinator for combating cross-border crime at the National Operations Department (Noa), saying the system may be used, for example, to locate a wanted person or vehicle.
On 12 March 2025 the Riksdag approved rules allowing the Police Authority and the Security Service to use ANPR throughout the country from 1 April 2025. No source read gives the number of cameras now in use or the date the Öresund Bridge system started.
