The Gendarmerie's news page of 5 October 2022 (updated 3 February 2023) reports that the Pôle judiciaire de la gendarmerie nationale (PJGN) received Europol's innovation excellence award, handed over on 4 October 2022 in The Hague at Europol's annual convention of police chiefs, for a platform of AI tools for criminal analysis. The tools listed include text comparison, object detection in image sets (for example weapons and drugs), speech-to-text transcription, entity extraction and machine translation into about a hundred languages, developed with EU Horizon 2020 funding; the page says the platform "a vocation à être exploitée" (is intended for use) by investigators and criminal analysts. ActuIA (10 October 2022, updated 14 February 2025), which attributes the platform to the PJGN's AI centre, says it is "actuellement à la disposition de 600 analystes criminels à travers la France", lists fingerprint analysis among the tools, and says some tools are shared with other European law enforcement agencies through Europol's Innovation Lab tool repository. The operational status rests on these October 2022 descriptions, and neither source gives a vendor, start date or legal basis.
