The Greer Police Department in South Carolina has terminated two officers for the improper use of the agency's licence plate recognition technology. Corporal Kareem Lynch and Officer Sebastian Echeverry were dismissed on Monday, 29 June, following an audit that confirmed alleged inappropriate searches using the Greer Police Flock system. Lynch reportedly spent two months running searches on the licence tag of a colleague with whom he had a prior relationship, entering deceitful reasons such as welfare checks and city planning. Meanwhile, Echeverry searched the tags of multiple citizens after submitting false justifications regarding non-DUI alcohol offences. A Flock Safety feature helped confirm the officers' misconduct, which breached a department programme policy active since January 2023 that restricts the system to public safety-related missions.
