Last summer, the Burlington Police Department became the first agency in its state to use artificial intelligence to review body camera footage, reflecting a wider expansion of AI in the Piedmont-Triad. The department uses software developed by Truleo, a US-based company founded in 2022 that claims to offer the most accurate and intelligent AI in public safety. The technology relies on OpenAI and Amazon Web Services models to analyse 100 per cent of a police department's video footage. Truleo states that its software makes video reviews more efficient, eliminates supervisor bias, and reinforces positive officer behaviours.
