Police officers are adopting artificial intelligence chatbots to turn hours-long crime report writing into a process taking only seconds. Software programmes developed by companies including Axon use audio from an officer's body camera to generate a narrative, aiding departments that are stretched thin and helping to improve delayed response times. According to Thaddeus Johnson, an assistant professor of criminal justice at Georgia State University and former police officer, the technology also helps officers record details they may have forgotten due to tunnel vision or auditory exclusion during incidents. However, concerns remain that the technology could worsen existing bias or prejudice built into the systems, whilst language algorithms risk misinterpreting the meaning or context of dialogue despite officers having the ability to edit reports prior to submission.
