Retrospective facial recognition runs at far greater scale than live, with less scrutiny

The ICO's audit of five police forces found compliance was generally weaker for retrospective facial recognition than for live deployment. Greater Manchester Police received only limited assurance for its retrospective use while scoring reasonable assurance for live. Separately, a National Physical Laboratory evaluation confirmed bias in the algorithm behind the 19 million image national database.
