Notes
Correctional News reported on 14 May 2026 that the Bureau of Prisons selected Leo Technologies for a five-year contract worth more than $106 million to provide AI-enabled translation and transcription services supporting "authorized inmate communications monitoring and investigative operations", using the company's Verus platform for multilingual transcription, translation, search and analysis. The platform is intended to help identify intelligence on security threats, criminal coordination, contraband trafficking, gang activity, and wellness and suicide indicators. The report describes a 2025 Bureau request for information that sought automated transcription, translation, analysis and risk-based scoring across its 120 institutions, and carries no statement from the Bureau about the award. The company's claims that Verus is deployed in more than 250 correctional facilities and has processed more than 4.2 billion minutes of communications relate to its other customers and are not independently verified. No source shows the Bureau using the platform yet, and the Justice Department's 2025 AI use case inventory, compiled before the award, has no entry for it.
