Notes
The Romanian Border Police (IGPF) said in a press release, reported by Newsweek România on 24 February 2026, that the EU Entry/Exit System had been introduced in stages from 12 October 2025 and would be extended to all border crossing points from 2 March 2026, adding 24 crossings on the borders with Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine, at Black Sea and Danube ports and at Bucharest Henri Coandă airport. A facial image and four fingerprints are taken, with alphanumeric data, at a non-EU traveller's first entry, and later crossings are verified automatically; children under 12 are exempt from fingerprinting. Newsweek România (8 October 2025) reported the start at five crossings (Midia, Stânca, Naidaș, Sighet and Sibiu airport), and Digi24 (10 December 2025) listed 12 crossings where the system was then working, including Suceava airport. Digi24 reported that data are kept for three years, or five years if entry is refused or the permitted stay is exceeded. The EU-wide system is operated centrally by eu-LISA.
