SoundThinking announced coverage extended through 2029 in the fiscal 2027 budget during the second quarter of 2026. The renewal is a company statement.
Update, November 2026. CityView NC reported on 8 September 2025 that the council voted 8-2 to renew ShotSpotter for one year at $220,500 (the article also gives $220,000), after voting 8-2 on 2 September to accept an independent evaluation by researchers at the Wilson Center for Science and Justice at Duke Law, which found that "only a quarter" of alerts not tied to a 911 call could be linked to confirmed gunfire. No Fayetteville source confirming the extension "through 2029" described above was found, so it is still known only from the vendor's press release.
