Notes
The department's 2025 facial recognition report records 71 searches in calendar year 2025, 45 producing no leads and 26 producing investigative leads. Searches used the Cogent Mugshot System (41 searches, 20 leads), reached through the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services portal and covering mugshot, driver's licence and ID card photos, and Mug Shot Face Detective (30 searches, 6 leads), reached through the National Capital Region network. The report also lists Thorn Spotlight, an AI tool that compares photos of possible trafficking victims with online adverts, with no searches in 2025. The report states that no data breaches or unauthorised uses were identified. It does not name the vendors behind the systems beyond the system names.
