FutureScot reported on 16 January 2026 that Police Scotland had been running a small-scale proof-of-concept trial of Microsoft Copilot since October 2025, open to a limited number of officers and staff and focused on corporate work such as finding information in existing HR policies. A force spokesperson said the trial "does not involve any operational policing processes". Participants were offered workshops and online sessions, and the force says it developed user guidance and policies to avoid data breaches and security incidents. The article says the trial followed the force's Rights-based Pathway for assessing new technologies. It does not say which Copilot product is used, when the trial will end or whether wider adoption is planned. A Sky News survey of forces, as summarised by Resultsense on 24 February 2026, reported that police in Scotland and Northern Ireland "do not allow Copilot"; that report does not mention the trial, and no later source says whether the trial has ended.
